Bringing in the New Year

After Christmas, we didn't slow down any. It has been so nice having Dan home the whole week and we have taken full advantage of everyday that he has been home. We have been putting off so many projects and getting set for baby until after Christmas. Now that its after Christmas we put things in high gear and got as much done as possible.

Owen playing on his iPad after church.

Normally we don't take Christmas decorations until after the new year, but the kids one night just started playing with the ornaments on the tree and taking them off. An hour later the tree was completely taken down and out on the curb. Both Dan and I are in super duper clean out mode right now, so it just felt good to check that off the list. The next day we had Christmas completely taken down and Dan had the lights off the house.

We spent one afternoon at the library. We played there for quite a while and let the kids pick out books and movies. They both wanted to carry their own bags... more like dragging the bags. Haha

He is getting too big!

We took the kids to a movie. This was our first time taking Owen to a movie and we were a bit nervous about him. He did fantastic. It was only the last five minutes that he was getting restless and Dan took him out, but then a couple minutes later the movie ended. Both kids did great and we will definitely be doing a movie again!

We went to a theater with reclining seats. June loved it even though her little feet couldn't reach! She loved pushing the button and having her chair go up and down.

Dan and I both went into hyper drive this week with cleaning, de-junking and getting ready for baby. I planned on doing a lot through out the month, but Dan was so on top of things that we finished the majority of our list just this week. It has been so awesome and felt so so good. I had the kids (mostly June) go through all our old toys and put them in a donate pile. She had a bit of a hard time saying goodbye to some toys (that she NEVER plays with, I might add) but the thought of giving a toy away is always a hard concept for children. She was very sweet about it and kept telling us that she knows other boys and girls can play with these toys. She helped us load up all our donated items and even helped us unload them as well. She felt very helpful! It was cute to watch her.

We finally took down Owen's welcome home sign that my dad and June had made back when Owen was born and we brought him home. 2 years that sign hung on our garage door. It's time to welcome a new baby into our home, so we took it down. I of course saved it.

We had a few pieces of furniture that needed to be painted for baby girls room, and Dan did it all. The kids thought it was so cool to watch him, so they went out in the garage and played and watched him paint.

June loves packing backpacks and going on "adventures" She asked if we could go for a hike and then go camping afterward. We told her that we need to wait for it to warm up to camp, but we could go do some exploring  and hike a little. She was thrilled! We just went up to our local nature preserve and "hiked" those trails.

June wanted to go hike off trail, so her and Dan did a little exploring through the trees.

The kids played and splashed in all the puddles. It was pretty chilly out and their feet were soaking wet, but they didn't care one bit. So we let them have their fun and no one has gotten sick yet! Knock on wood!

Little Explorer. She had to pack her binoculars to look for wild animals. She also packed her own water, a snack and some toys she felt were hiking worthy.

We purchased a couple of things for the baby's room which meant big boxes to color in!

We've spent a lot of time in baby's room getting it set up, so the kids played in there a lot too. I think they were happy to just have that room open to them again, since we had it set up as "Christmas room" which meant we had it locked all the time. They love playing with the baby stuff, especially this bouncer. Owen was so sweet just laying in there one night. He is so big!!

New Years Eve we played hard with the kids. We had so much fun just spending the day with them and kind of letting them take the lead of the day.
Later that night we headed to Chuck-E-Cheese to play and have a New Years Eve dinner. I have never been there and my expectations were low... But we seriously had so much fun! The kids were in heaven playing all the games and being able to eat pizza!

We played this one game where you had to get 3 crowns to win. It was sort of like a lottery scratch ticket. Dan totally won! He won the jack pot of 100 tickets! It was the highlight of the night. We get excited pretty easily! Haha

We played and played and played. We were there for almost three hours! We decided it was time to cash in our tickets and head home to get ready to ring in the new year.

We got home, gave the kids a bath and got our party gear ready.
Seriously there was no other place I would rather be.

We played Mario Party, had snacks and then crawled into our bed to watch a movie. We popped some popcorn and watched until about 11:40. Owen was off the walls ready for bed, so we put him down without a fight. We came back to get June to go watch the ball drop and she was out cold. She was so close! Haha

So we brought in the New Year just Dan and I. It was simple, quite and pretty perfect. We watched the ball drop and had our New Years kiss. I've heard its bad luck to start the year off without a New Years kiss and so we don't take any chances with that! Haha!

We ended up sitting on the couch and talking about the year and what we want out of 2016. We ended up heading to bed around 1:30am.

The kids woke up around eight and just like that a new year has begun. We are very excited to see what 2016 brings. The unknown is exciting and scary all at the same time, but with a new baby coming at the end of this month we feel we are starting 2016 with a bang. A pretty good one at that!
