Our 4th Celebration!

Our 4th was good. Real good. Real simple, but oh so good!

Now, usually we have a pool party and celebrate with friends, but this year, with our backyard still in turmoil from all the renovation, just getting back from Canada, and plus leaving for our epic trip this Friday, We decided it be best, to just take it easy. I am so glad we did. It turned out to be such a fun weekend with just my little family!

Since the 4th was on Saturday this year, Dan had Friday, the 3rd, off, plus he got to come home early on Thursday. Extra time with daddy is always wanted!!

We ran errands to Target. These two were too cute for words sitting in that front bench together! They actually rode around like that too.

We went and had lunch. These two ransack my purse every chance they get.  I don't mind, because there is nothing in there that they can hurt... Owen was loving putting lip gloss on everyone, and June thought it was pretty funny as well. Kept them entertained while we waited for our food.

We then came home with full bellies, had some quiet/nap time and then hopped into the pool!

Saturday, the actual holiday, we were indecisive of if we would go to our wards breakfast at the park. If the kids woke up great, but if not, we weren't going to force it on them. Both of them woke up around 8. The breakfast was at 8:30. So we quickly got dressed, and headed over to the park.

The primary kids put on a little parade for all of us.

June asked me to take a picture of her silly face... This was the final product and she thought she was hilarious!

My littles

We had lunch, then Dan and June went to go see a movie during Owen's nap. They went and saw "Inside Out". Dan said it was very cute! I am sure it will be one we own! I enjoyed the quiet house for a bit.

Then it was swim time! See how murky our pool water is?! So really it's just dirt at the bottom of the pool. I really thick layer of dirt. All the construction has been killing our swimming season. Until we realized that its just dirt. Now we swim in it everyday.
So our pool guy is working on it, but had to replace the filters in the pump, because there is just so much dirt. Hopefully when he comes this week, the pool will be back to its normal sparkling self. Just in time to get more dirt added to it, I'm sure. Have I mentioned how I CANNOT wait for our backyard to get back to normal?!

We swam and swam and swam. All afternoon!

We had music playing, we had snacks and Owen ate his weight in cookies!

When we got hungry, Dan fired up the grill and we cooked hot dogs, sausages and pineapple!

After dinner and being attacked by flies, we got the kids bathed, dinner cleaned up and headed outside to do some little poppers and fire-crackers.

As soon as we started throwing them, Owen ran for the door. He did not like them!

A little blurred, but he just stood there and rocked back and forth with his trusty glow stick flag that he used more as an axe.

We finally convinced Owen to come out when we brought out their little chairs. They threw a few more poppers and then we headed over to watch the big fire works.

When we arrived, there was a big open space where no one was sitting. We thought heck, we will sit there, thinking that the reason why people weren't sitting there, is because the trees blocked the fireworks.

June put on lots of glow stick dance shows for us while we waited.

Dan took the kids for a small walk, waiting impatiently for the fireworks to start

And then they started! At first there was a bit of a hiccup and they weren't shooting off the fireworks very well... but once a few minutes past the real show started and it was actually really good for being a small town firework show!! AND we had, seriously, the BEST seats! No one was around us, and we could see the show dead on! We don't think we have ever had such great seats for a firework show before, and trust me, we have been bit in the butt before! hahaha

About half way through, June asked if we could go home and since we were there for the kids, we thought, well heck, if the kids want to go, we go! We loaded them up and they were both out cold before we even left the parking lot.

The next morning, June came into our room about 6:30am. NOT HAPPENING! I convinced her to come get in bed with me and I scratched her back for a bit. Thankfully she fell back asleep!
Her and Dan slept for a while!! Her feet on his chest the whole time! Haha

It was a fantastic 4th! One that my little family just needed as us! It's such a fun and easy going holiday! I am so grateful for my freedom. I really take it for granted and need to do a better job at teaching my children what it means to live in America, but I am very grateful that we have such a day where we get to recognize our Freedoms. I am so proud to be an American!!
